Rouge du Rhin was launched in November 1995.
It all began with a passion: to relearn a craft. It was a craft that our mothers and grandmothers practiced, bent over their hoops, and which today seems to be essential part of our equilibrium.
The freshness of a flower, the simplicity of a nursery rhyme, the tenderness of a series of happy events, all these worlds sometimes inspired by « L’air du temp »s, sometimes by a timeless memory. We hope they will inspire you with the same pleasure we had in creating them .
Why the name « Rouge du Rhin » ?
In the past, the red thread was used to mark household linens. The textile dyers of the time widely used plant dyes, in particular from the madder plant, to color the Alsatian threads and fabrics.
The waste waters from these textile manufacturers was dumped into creeks which fed the Rhine River.
The concentration of these workshops bordering Mulhouse led to the name « The Red Sea Area »
After ten years in an advertising and graphic design firm, Marianne Diemer created the Rouge du Rhin company. Her love for embroidery had been influenced by the traditional mother daughter teachings of several generations. Marrying her education with her passion, Marianne wished to create designs which combine a modern spirit with traditional elegance.
Over the past years the Rouge du Rhin team has come from diverse professional backgrounds while sharing the same passion and enthusiasm, not only for the spirit of Rouge du Rhin, but for the adventure of growing this business.
